Being a taff, I quite enjoyed the calcutta cup to round off a nice day at the beach ... certainly evens everything up nicely to make the grand slam a bit more interesting ... gotta hope wales can beat the irish to think we've got any chance of retaining the title after whooping everyone last year

Anyway ... as gutted said really .... plus we had the marine wildlife rescue folk on site for a dress rehearsal for when whales & dolphins beach in the bay, hundred of people releasing inflatable fish back into the sea ... bit sureal, but not something that happens every day

Wind was a little up & down when I rigged, and i used local knowledge deciding to rig bigger than seemed appropriate ... easterlies always seem windier than they actually are, often leaving you underpowered ... typically, by the time I'd rigged and suited up, gutted arrives and puts more money in the wind meter .... decided to go for it anyway as was gusty closer in, too much sail (5.7m Expression) even with the bigger board (X-Style Wave 109), and then hands too cold to consider rigging anything else ... so gutted rigs more appropriate 5.0m on his Syncro 103 and was closer to getting it right ... I should have rigged 4.7m

Couple of walks back with the rip, due to problems sailing a tad overpowered in the gusts seeing me prefer to go with the flow a bit. Went for some port tack jumps, even went for a couple of forwards, but hands too cold to keep decent grip on boom and some comedy dismounts were seen by 100 plus whale lovers .... we had to be pretty careful where we returned to beach for there was a very real risk of being floated back out by concerned wildlife rescue crew

As for it being cold, just my hands suffered, my boots are only 3mm as were gutted's and no toes have dropped off yet. Pevensey was sunny, port tack cross-shore with very very slight offshore angle to it, and probably 8-10 degC in the sun. Wind was between 18-26 knots on the windy on the beach and there was a fair bit more on the water, especially as it filled in (what kind of muppet would use local knowledge and still rig a 5.7m for that ).

I counted 7 guys out included gutted and myself, 5 of us from the car park (3 late arrivals all on much more sensible 4.2 - 4.7m ish sails), the other 2 from Rosetti Road, also on what looked like 4.5m ish sails.
